Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Paudge Connolly

Ceist:

216 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the number of public service cuts proposed for his Department in 2004; the areas in which such proposed cuts will be effected; if they are likely to be at lower or higher levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24510/03]

The current core approved staffing number for my Department, including the national cultural institutions – the National Museum of Ireland, the National Library and the National Archives – is 460. The target reduction of three in staff numbers by end 2003 has already been achieved.

The total reduction indicated for my Department in 2004 is nine. This will be achieved through natural wastage. Staff resources of my Department will continue to be allocated in line with departmental priorities.
