Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

246 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a holiday visa has been refused to a person (details supplied) in the Ukraine. [24529/03]

The visa application in question was refused in September 2003 because my Department was not satisfied, on the basis of the documentation supplied, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa. It was noted that the applicant had visited the State previously.

In her current application the applicant stated that she intended to visit the State for a period of six months. A letter from the applicant's daughter, submitted in support of the visa application, indicated that she required the applicant to take care of her young child to enable her to return to work on a full-time basis. The immigration division of my Department was not satisfied that the actual purpose of the visit was as that stated on the visa application form, or that the intended visit would be short-term in nature.

It is open to the applicant to appeal against the refusal of the visa by writing to the visa appeals officer in my Department, together with additional supporting documentation.
