264 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the number of public service cuts proposed for his Department in 2004; the areas in which such proposed cuts will be effected; if they are likely to be at lower or higher levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The reduction in the authorised staffing complement for my Department in 2004 is 40. The reduction will be spread over the administrative, professional and industrial grades and will be implemented in such a way as to minimise the effect of the capability of my Department to provide an efficient and effective service to its customers.
