Written Answers. - Public Services.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

151 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Finance the services to the public available from the Revenue Commissioners office in the Square, Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24401/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the following services are available at the Revenue Information Office, Level 2, The Square, Tallaght, Dublin 24. The office is open to the public between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Approximately 90% of customers are PAYE taxpayers mainly seeking adjustments to their current year tax credits and emergency tax. The office also assists these customers in making claims for repayments of tax following a period of unemployment and in respect of earlier years. The claims are then referred to the customer's tax district for processing. Where a statement of liability – P21 – is required, the necessary information is sought from the customer and the request is referred to the customer's tax district for processing. Many customers require housing forms to be signed for the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and South Dublin County Council in respect of housing grant schemes.

The office also deals with self-employed customers and provides general information regarding their obligations under self-assessment and pay and file. Assistance is provided in completing registration forms and tax returns and payments in respect of tax due are accepted at the office. The distribution of C2 certificates to the construction industry in Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow is also managed from this office. The office does not deal with telephone inquiries. These are dealt with on the Revenue lo-call service at 1890 60 50 90 or in the appropriate business area. The Revenue Commissioners also have an office at St. John's House, Tallaght, Dublin 24, which deals with vehicle registration tax.
