Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

John Bruton

Ceist:

156 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if the interim report published by a person (details supplied) on the flooding in Dunboyne in 2000 and 2002 will be made available; when the final report on the Tolka flooding will be available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24549/03]

Following the severe flooding in November 2002 from the River Tolka, Meath County Council requested the consultants conducting the River Tolka flooding study, which forms part of the greater Dublin strategic drainage study, to produce an interim report for the council outlining measures that could be undertaken in the short-term to reduce the risk of flooding. This interim report was made available to the county council in January last. At the request of the county council, Office of Public Works agreed to fund and carry out a package of works recommended in this report. Following the necessary statutory approvals by the council and negotiation with landowners, work commenced in July and, subject to ground conditions, will be completed before the end of the year.

The full report on the entire Tolka catchment was commissioned by Dublin City Council as part of the greater Dublin strategic drainage study. A draft of the final report was received by Office of Public Works in August and comments forwarded to the city council. I understand that the report will be completed by the consultants in the next few weeks.
