Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Port Tunnel.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

159 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport the Government Department or local authority to which he has devolved responsibility for the need to increase the height of the port tunnel in order to facilitate the likely traffic; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24757/03]

The management of the construction of the Dublin Port tunnel, including issues in relation to the measures in place to ensure the safety of properties, and the development of a plan for traffic management following completion of the tunnel are the responsibility of the NRA and Dublin City Council.

The position in relation to the height of the tunnel is that my Department appointed consultants to review the feasibility, safety implications, and cost of options for raising the height of the tunnel. A draft of the consultant's report was received in my Department on 20 October 2003 and is currently being considered.
