167 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No 212 of 15 October 2003, if the Government supports the new EU proposals to introduce biometric data to the EU wide database under the Schengen Information System. [24708/03]
I informed the Deputy in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 212 of 15 October 2003 that the Schengen Information System, SISII, was discussed at the Justice and Home Affairs Council in June of this year. Agreement was reached on the broad functional requirements of the new system, including provision for the recording of certain biometric data. Specific proposals in this regard have not as yet been tabled by the Commission.
