Vol. 573 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of topics under Standing Order 31. I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter, namely, the necessity for the Minister for Education and Science to address the critical situation of Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dunleer, County Louth, the unacceptable situation whereby children are suffering unnecessarily as a result of the atrocious conditions at the school which was promised a replacement building 20 years ago, the fact that children and teachers continue to get drenched as they move between classes and are permanently cold because of rotting windows falling out of classrooms and permanent accommodation of just six classrooms, and the necessity for the Minister to intervene as a matter of urgency to ensure that students at Scoil Uí Mhuirí are provided with a new school building which would allow them to fully access their right to education.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to address the seriously misguided burn and bury policies of the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government following his assertion that the building of incinerators is to be fast tracked and in place before 2007, and to hear the workable alternatives based on zero waste strategies which he already has the power to enforce under the Waste Management Act 1996.

Having considered the matters raised they are not in order under Standing Order 31.
