Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

94 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason full slaughter premia were not awarded in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare in respect of their herd which was slaughtered in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24758/03]

The person named had 27 bovine animals slaughtered on 10 January 2002. A further animal was sent to the knackery on the same date. Twenty-five of these animals were deemed eligible for 2002 slaughter premium and full payment has issued in respect of these animals.

Two animals were ineligible for payment, as the information on the Department's cattle movement monitoring system was insufficient to establish whether the animals were held by the person named for two months in the last three months prior to slaughter. The Department wrote to the person named in this regard on three occasions, and as no reply was received the animals in question were deleted. Animals which are moved to the knackery do not qualify for slaughter premium.
