Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Spatial Strategy.

Ciarán Cuffe

Ceist:

235 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the changes that have been made in his Department's plans, programmes, policies and spending arising from the publication of the Government's national spatial strategy. [25429/03]

Measures in the CAP rural development plan 2000-2006 and agriculture and food-related measures in the national development plan are in line with the aims of the national spatial strategy. The rural environmental protection scheme and the farm waste management scheme recognise the role of farmers as custodians of the countryside and provide support for this role. These two schemes were a focus of attention in Sustaining Progress and, in line with that agreement, revisions to both schemes are currently being finalised prior to submission to the EU Commission for approval.
