279 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the Government's position on the German memorandum on the future of European defence calling for the creation of a fully-fledged EU army and the integration of British and French nuclear capability into a European defence system. While aware of media reports on the issue to which the Deputy refers, I have no specific knowledge of the content of the memorandum in question. It is my understanding that the document is a "food for thought" type paper, drawn up some time ago in the German defence ministry. It does not reflect the official policy of the German Government.
