Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

328 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of school building projects from section 6 on his Department's list which have progressed to tender stage in 2003 according to band rating; the number currently remaining on the section 6 list according to band rating; the amount allocated in 2003 for the progressing of section 6 building projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25052/03]

Large scale building projects listed in section 6 of the 2003 school building programme are at an advanced state of architectural planning, pre-tender documents. Projects listed in section 6 will not be authorised to progress beyond their current stage of architectural planning in 2003. Budgetary provisions in 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progression to tender and construction of these projects in conjunction with the band rating individually assigned.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

329 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science when the Phoenix Park special school, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, will be granted leave to extend the school building with funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25068/03]

The proposed large-scale building project for Phoenix Park special school is listed in section 7 of the 2003 school building programme which I published on my Department's website at www.education.ie. This proposed project is at an early stage of architectural planning and has been assigned a band 1 rating by my Department in accordance with the published criteria for prioritising large-scale projects.

Projects listed in section 7 are not being authorised to progress beyond their current stage of architectural planning for the time being. The timing of when projects listed in these sections can progress to tender and construction will depend on the budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years and the priority afforded to each project by reference to the band rating.

In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
