Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Seamus Healy

Ceist:

338 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Education and Science when he proposes to approve the application of south Tipperary VEC for a grant of ?1.9 million for remedial works at St. Ailbe's vocational school, Tipperary town. [25115/03]

The current position is that St. Ailbe's school has an application with my Department for both additional accommodation and refurbishment of existing accommodation and County Tipperary South Riding. VEC has recently submitted updated cost estimates for the refurbishment works required to the school.

Prior to making any major capital investment at the school and consistent with standard practice within my Department the long-term viability of the school must be assured. This assessment is taking place in the school planning section of the Department at present.

In the meantime any urgent minor improvement works required to be undertaken at the school will be considered in the context of the 2004 capital programme.
