Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Child Abuse.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

346 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason St. Luke's Hospital, Clonmel, has not yet been named and published as an institution under the terms of the redress scheme for survivors of institutional abuse; his plans for doing so; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25150/03]

Section 4 of the Residential Institutions Act 2002 provides for the inclusion of additional institutions to the schedule should such institutions prove eligible. Officials in my Department are consulting with other Departments and interested parties in order to ascertain the eligibility of a number of proposed institutions. St. Luke's Hospital, Clonmel, is one of the institutions being considered. On completion of this process the qualifying institutions can then be included in the schedule.

It is my intention that a list of additional institutions will be brought before both Houses of the Oireachtas as soon as the verification process is completed.
