Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

369 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the action his Department intends to take or is taking in relation to a submission made by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny on behalf of their children who are due to attend Freshford national school, County Kilkenny; his plans in relation to their education; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25328/03]

I wish to confirm that my Department sanctioned four hours resource teaching support for the first named pupil on 25 September 2003. At that time, the school was advised that my Department was unable to sanction similar supports for the second named pupil as the application did not meet the eligibility criteria in the relevant Department circular.

The school subsequently furnished additional documentation in support of the application for further support for the first named pupil. This documentation is currently being considered by the national educational psychological service. A response will issue to the school as soon as this process has been completed.
