Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Seamus Healy

Ceist:

418 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the position regarding the application by St. Aibhes Community Partnership, Tipperary town, for a grant under the sports grant scheme. [25173/03]

The national lottery-funded sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, allocates funding to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country. The programme is run on an annual basis.

All applications under the 2003 sports capital programme were evaluated by my Department in accordance with the assessment criteria for the programme published in the guidelines, terms and conditions document which accompanied the application form for the programme. Following completion of the evaluation of the applications received by my Department under the programme, I announced all the provisional grant allocations under the 2003 programme. I announced the allocations on 25 July last for those projects classified as local and on 29 August for those classified as regional, municipal/multi-purpose and national.

The application referred to by the Deputy was unsuccessful and a letter advising the organisation accordingly together with a copy of the assessment carried out on the application, including the specific reasons for the application being unsuccessful, was issued to the organisation on 1 August 2003.
It is open to the organisation to submit an application to the 2004 sports capital programme when that scheme is publicly advertised. At that time, the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme will be available to the organisations which request an application form from my Department.
