Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

480 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the current waiting list in the Western Health Board area for mammograms. [25318/03]

The provision of mammogram services for persons resident in the Western Health Board area is a matter for the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position and reply to the Deputy directly.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

481 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if a general practitioner can refer a public patient for a mammogram or if this referral must be made by a consultant; and if this is the case, the reason general practitioners cannot refer women for mammograms rather than them having to attend a consultant, when this facility is available to private patients. [25319/03]

Responsibility for the provision of services for medical card holders rests, by legislation, with the chief executive officer of the relevant health board. Accordingly, since I understand that this particular question relates to the situation which obtains in the Western Health Board, it has been referred to the chief executive officer for investigation and direct reply to the Deputy.
