Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

533 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Transport the investment which has been made on the Limerick-Ballybrophy rail line in the past five years; and the results of that investment. [25133/03]

I am informed by Irish Rail that the investment in the Limerick Junction to Ballybrophy line over the last five years is as follows:

1998

284,552

1999

122,095

2000

354,935

2001

499,327

2002

874,342

The investment was predominantly on upgrading rails and sleepers at critical locations to ensure safe operations. The effect of this expenditure is that the line is maintained to the required safety standards.
