Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Recycling Policy.

Ciarán Cuffe

Ceist:

541 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Transport the overall figure within his Department for the percentages, quantities and costs of recycled and non-recycled paper and paper products used by his Department in the last period for which figures are available; and the plans his Department has to increase its use of recycled paper and paper products, and cut down on the use of non-recycled paper and paper products. [25420/03]

The Department uses 100% recycled plain paper, envelopes and notebooks. The Department intends to increase its use of recycled paper by introducing recycled headed paper. Extensive testing of the plain recycled paper has proved that the quality of recycled paper is now of a high enough standard to be used exclusively in all our printers and photocopiers. This Department has a policy of recycling all our paper and cardboard waste.

A detailed breakdown by percentage, quantity and cost of recycled and non-recycled paper, as requested by the Deputy, would take considerable time to prepare. These can be compiled in due course should the Deputy so require.
