Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

561 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received correspondence from the Ashington Residents Association, Cabra, Dublin, regarding the problem of Garda resources in Cabra station; if he will be issuing a response; his views on the fact that there is a need for an increased Garda presence in Cabra; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24849/03]

I have recently received correspondence from and on behalf of the Ashington Residents Association. I am awaiting the observations of the Garda authorities on the issues raised in the correspondence and a response will issue when these are to hand.

With regard to resources in Cabra Garda station, I have been informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources, including personnel, that the personnel strength – all ranks – of Cabra Garda station and the DMR west division is 67 and 610 respectively and that it is the responsibility of the divisional officer to allocate personnel within a division as he or she sees fit.

However, the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next becomes available, the needs of Cabra Garda station and the DMR west division will be fully considered within the overall context of Garda divisions throughout the country.
