Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

622 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if two persons who visited a person (details supplied) in County Kildare on 21 October 2003 were in fact members of the Garda Síochána from Harcourt Street Garda station; if, in the course of their interview with the person, they indicated they were there to arrest the person; the grounds on which such visits are authorised and by the instigation of whom in these circumstances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25638/03]

I have had inquiries made with the Garda authorities and I am informed that two members from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which is based in DMR headquarters at Harcourt Square, called to the home of the person in question as part of their duties. I am further informed that they did not indicate that they were there to arrest the person and did not arrest the person.
