Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Pat Breen

Ceist:

626 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the responsibility his Department takes for wandering deer that cross public roads and have in the past caused serious injuries to motorists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25494/03]

It is the responsibility of motorists to exercise vigilance at all times in relation to all potential hazards, including wild animals. It would not be practicable for the State to take responsibility for wandering deer or other wild animals, which are not the property of the State, or for any damage or injury they may cause.
