Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social and Affordable Housing.

Arthur Morgan

Ceist:

635 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the amount spent by the Government and local authorities on social housing for each year in the past six years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24918/03]

In recent years, there have been substantial increases in the level of spending on the local authority and social housing programmes. The amount spent by the Government and local authorities on the main local authority housing construction programme in each of the past six years is set out in the table below. In addition, funding has been provided on other aspects of housing, including regeneration schemes, voluntary housing programmes, affordable housing and shared ownership schemes. The total capital funding for housing in the period since 1998 has increased from €484 million to €1.7 billion in 2003. It is anticipated that the range of social and affordable housing measures will deliver accommodation for about 13,000 households in 2003.
