Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Recycling Facilities.

Arthur Morgan

Ceist:

669 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the reason his Department stopped plans by Drogheda Borough Council to develop an amenity centre when the local authority was about to go to tender; if he will apologise to the residents of Drogheda for the lack of recycling facilities in the town; and when his Department will correct the matter in order that residents can increase their recycling rates. [25109/03]

The initial application to my Department from the council for assistance towards the provision of a civic amenity centre in Drogheda could not be supported due to issues associated with it proposed procurement process. On 14 October, my Department's officials met the local authority to discuss these difficulties and it now proposes a revised procedure.

Recently the local authority submitted a draft brief for the appointment of consulting engineers to support the revised procedure and it is being examined. My Department will revert to the council on the matter very shortly.
