Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Land Acquisition.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

692 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the reason the agreement between the Irish Farmers Association and the National Roads Authority regarding land acquisition for road development for national primary use is not used with minor variations on land acquisition for regional road developments, in view of the fact that the impact on landowners would be similar in both types of projects and that the existing agreement is working well. [25396/03]

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

693 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if he will consider part-funding the support service offered by the IFA to landowners affected by infrastructural developments. [25397/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 692 and 693 together.

In December 2001 my Department had the main responsibility of dealing with national roads. The agreement between the IFA, the NRA and my Department only related to such roads. Existing arrangements regarding compensation in the case of non-national road developments are deemed to be satisfactory. There are no proposals to extend this agreement to include non-national road schemes or to contribute to support services offered by the IFA to landowners.
