Vol. 573 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Perry

Ceist:

247 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 560 of 30 September 2003, if a decision will be made on a school transport appeal by a person (details supplied) in view of the circumstances outlined by the person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25750/03]

The person referred to in the details supplied will be notified of the appeal board's decision as soon as the appeal is heard.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

248 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a judgment can be made that a person (details supplied) in County Mayo can board a school bus with assistance, without medical documentation ever being submitted on this person's condition. [25760/03]

The pupil to whom the Deputy refers lives 4.6 miles from the school concerned, his nearest school and two miles from the bus route. My Department has examined this case on the basis of the information available and has offered a grant to the family of €370 per annum towards the cost of private transport arrangements from their home to the pick-up point. If the family are not satisfied with my Department's decision, they may submit an appeal to the independent school transport appeals board.
