As the Deputy is aware, suicide resource officers have been appointed in all health boards with specific responsibility for implementing the recommendations of the national task force on suicide, which published its report in 1998. Responsibility for the terms and conditions of employment of those personnel, including their grading level, is a matter for each health board. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer of each health board and the regional chief officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy, and a consolidated reply will be issued to the Deputy from my Department as soon as possible.
