Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Cowley – the plans, if any, there are to change the planning laws making it a criminal offence to submit hoax letters of objection to planning applications; (2) Deputy Kehoe – the need for the Minister to clarify his policy on the future status of An Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and if it is his intention to retain the independence of this body rather than amalgamating BIM with existing statutory organisations; (3) Deputies Callanan, Connaughton and McHugh – the recent hardship and problems such as pollution to the river which is the source for the Gort water scheme, the devastation already caused by the landslide at Derrybrien and fears of further landslides; (4) Deputy Ring – to ask the Minister to exempt elected representatives from having to pay the fee for third party FOI requests and why it was deemed necessary to make changes to freedom of information requests; (5) Deputy Rabbitte – the steps that will be taken to provide a bridge at Monastery Road, Clondalkin, and to generally alleviate the logjam at the Red Cow roundabout; (6) Deputy Connolly – the situation pertaining in rural national schools with particular reference to Knocknagrave national school, County Monaghan, where staffing is determined by the enrolment on 30 September of the previous school year; (7) Deputy Costello – the need for the Minister to ensure that the Irish film and television industry is promoted and the jobs of workers protected through retention of section 481 tax incentives; (8) Deputy Carey – the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to examine the laws relating to the sale of fireworks; (9) Deputy Stanton – the urgent need to provide resources to combat coastal erosion in the Youghal, Gortroe and Ballymacoda areas of east Cork; (10) Deputy Upton – the need for the Minister for Education and Science to rectify the totally inadequate system of dealing with teachers of art who had endeavoured to qualify through the Department's technical schools system; if it will be reviewed as a matter of urgency and whether those teachers whose careers have suffered will be recompensed; (11) Deputy Lynch – the need to provide the necessary resources to the Southern Health Board to deal with 3,000 files handed over to it by St. Anne's Adoption Society; and (12) Deputy Finian McGrath – the proposal to have an All-Ireland international soccer team.

The matters raised by Deputies Stanton, Rabbitte and Callanan, Connaughton and McHugh have been selected for discussion.
