Pat Breen

Ceist:

Pat Breen

Ceist:

151 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Transport the proposals he has to stamp out any possible illegal trade in dangerous second hand vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25902/03]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 150 and 151 together.

The Road Traffic Act 1968 sets out certain provisions for the control of the supply of vehicles. These provisions prohibit, inter alia, the delivery of a vehicle in such a condition that it does not comply with the requirements of regulations regarding the use of vehicles in a public place or on a public road. I will consider, in conjunction with the Attorney General, the question of introducing controls on the sale of vehicles generally, including to persons under the licensing age established under the road traffic Acts.
