Vol. 573 No. 5

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I will call on the Deputies to raise the matters in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of national importance, namely, the major disruption to people's homes in Marino, Fairview, Drumcondra and Santry areas during the construction of the Dublin Port tunnel, the urgent need to compensate the families of the 90 homes damaged and the need to investigate the many serious complaints about this project.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of national importance, namely, the implication for the employment and the economy in the area of the announcement that Michel Ireland in Portlaw, County Waterford is to close with the loss of 70 jobs, and the need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to act to secure the threatened jobs.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of national importance, namely, the decision by Irish Rail to close the DART service over the holiday period 27 December to 4 January inclusive. There is now an urgent need for the Minister for Transport to put alternative rail and public transport services in place over this period and to review the operation of the communications between his Department and Irish Rail.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in accordance with Standing Order 31.
