72 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the extent to which charities whose fund-raising has been compromised by the national lottery have responded to the charities lotteries fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25719/03]
To date a total of €41.90 million – £33 million – has been disbursed from the fund, and a further €7.618 million will be paid out by the end of this year. All told, some 16 charitable organisations have benefited from the scheme.
Generally, I believe the scheme has been successful in achieving its objectives. However, a review of the scheme, undertaken as part of the expenditure review initiative, is nearing completion and I await its findings.
