Vol. 573 No. 5

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Beverley Flynn

Ceist:

96 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his Department had an involvement in the clean-up after the Gort flooding in 1996; if so, the extent of the involvement; and the financial contribution which was made by his Department. [26036/03]

My Department introduced the flood damage (farmyard relocation) relief scheme following the outbreak of flooding in the State in 1995. The farmyard relocation scheme was targeted towards assisting those farmers whose holdings and farmyards were subjected to substantial flooding for at least 21 consecutive days in the January-March period of 1995. Under the terms and conditions of the scheme the maximum grant aid payable was 70% of the cost. In addition, grants were also paid by my Department in respect of fodder and livestock losses arising from that flooding. The total amount of compensation paid under the elements of the flood damage relief scheme was £1.46 million, or €1.85 million.
