Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

235 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the action he intends to take to address departmental overspending; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26099/03]

The end-October Exchequer statement published on 4 November shows that net voted spending for the year-to-date increased by 6%, which compares with the projected increase of 7% provided in the Revised Estimates. Net voted spending is €1.45 billion less than profiled last January. While some individual Departments have experienced spending pressures in 2003, these are generally being managed within the overall budget under the revised procedures agreed last year for the management and monitoring of public expenditure.

I will be setting out the latest out-turn projections for 2003 as well as outlining the public spending parameters for 2004 when the Abridged Estimates Volume for the latter year is published next Thursday.
