Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

282 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if school transport provided to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will continue from that person's home. [26207/03]

I wish to advise the Deputy that the family in question has been offered a remote area grant from its home to the pick-up point, 2.1 miles from its home. This grant is payable to families living in remote areas who are attending and reside at least three miles from their nearest appropriate post-primary school and two miles from the service to that school.

The family appealed this decision not to grant a home pick-up for their son. The appeals board considered this appeal and found that the offer made by the Department in this case was reasonable and appropriate within the terms of the school transport scheme. This appeal was therefore not allowed. The decision of the appeal board is final and only one appeal per family is allowed.
