Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

289 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science if he received an application for a full-time resource teacher for St. Brigid's primary school, Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow; if so, when; if the position will be sanctioned and when; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26318/03]

I understand that the school in question has sanction for 21 hours resource teaching support per week. The school has submitted an application for resource teaching hours for one additional pupil, which, if sanctioned, would give the school sufficient hours for a full-time resource teaching post.

Applications for special educational needs supports received between 14 February 2003 and 31 August 2003 are being examined at present on the basis of the supporting professional report(s) and in the context of resources already available at the school. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists. The schools involved, including this school, will be informed of the outcome as early as possible in the current school year.
