Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Electricity Legislation.

Eamon Ryan

Ceist:

342 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources his views on the Competition Authority's suggestion that electricity regulation should be asymmetric; and if he will make public the tripartite agreement between the ESB and the Government. [26605/03]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the submission on asymmetric regulation made by the Competition Authority on foot of the public consultation process initiated by my Department on the new Electricity Bill.

All of the issues raised by the Competition Authority, including dominance issues and proposed market restrictions on the activities and operations of the ESB, together with all other submissions, representations and comments received, will be given due consideration in the context of the Electricity Bill and policy development. These issues are also being addressed by the Commission for Energy Regulation, in the context of its statutory remit as industry regulator.

As regards the tripartite agreement, to which the Deputy, the agreement details are available on my Department's website: http://www.dcmnr.ie
