Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Waste Disposal.

Eamon Ryan

Ceist:

349 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he or other bodies are responsible for granting New Ross Port Company a permit to dump dredge spoil on an area just below Pink Rock on the River Barrow, south of New Ross. [26612/03]

A foreshore licence was granted to New Ross Port Company in 1999 for the construction of a river training wall and eight river groynes. The licence also permitted associated dredging and disposal works, and one of the disposal sites was an area adjacent to Pink Rock.

The licence was granted after full consideration of all relevant issues and the normal process of public consultation. A follow up inspection of the area will be arranged in conjunction with the heritage and planning division of the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
