Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Programmes.

Paudge Connolly

Ceist:

352 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the level of funding allocated to each county in the BMW region by his Department under the various operational programmes since the establishment of the BMW regional assembly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26150/03]

The funding allocated to the BMW region under the operational programmes relevant to my Department since the establishment of the BMW Assembly is set out as follows. The data are given on a county basis where they are available, otherwise the global allocation is shown.

Under Sub-Programme 1: Local Infrastructure, Measure 8: Culture, Recreation and Sport, €532,414 has been allocated to County Mayo in respect of Turlough Park House and €35,553 to County. Galway in respect of Letterfrack Conservation Centre.
Arts funding under various operational programmes has been allocated as follows:

A sum of €18,582,280 has been provided under the Tourism Marketing Fund of the Productive Sector Operational Programme Marketing Measure in 2002 and 2003 but due to the nature of the expenditure it is not possible to disaggregate it on a county basis.
With regard to the allocation under the tourism product development for the BMW for which Fáilte Ireland is responsible, the detailed evaluation process is now fully under way and it is expected that grant awards will be made in the coming months. As the amount to be allocated to the region will depend on the quality of the projects it is too early to provide a county analysis of fund allocations at this time. Under the employment and human resources operational programme, amounts allocated by county and expen1diture to June 2003 are as follows:

There has been no allocation to date for the recreational and sports facilities sub-measure of the BMW or southern and eastern regional operational programmes, local infrastructure sub-programme.
I have no statutory role in relation to the allocation of funds to specific projects or schemes under these operational programmes or in relation to the level of funding allocated on a county basis in either the BMW region or the southern and eastern region.
