Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Services.

Jerry Cowley

Ceist:

365 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Health and Children when the feasibility study result into the helicopter emergency medical service will be released in view of the continuing deaths and disability from the lack of a dedicated helicopter emergency medical service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26096/03]

My Department and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Belfast – DHSSPS commissioned a feasibility study and report on the costs and benefits associated with the introduction of a dedicated helicopter emergency medical services, HEMS, for the island of Ireland.

My Department understands that the report will be finalised and presented to it and to the DHSSPS in the coming weeks. The findings of this report will be considered by both Departments in the context of developments in the emergency medical services generally.
