Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

408 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children if the insurance requirement for voluntary groups as specified by the North Eastern Health Board for use of the day care facility in the new health centre in Cootehill, County Cavan, can be waived; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26598/03]

As the Deputy will be aware, responsibility for the provision of health services in County Cavan rests with the North Eastern Health Board. My Department has made inquiries of the board in relation to the matter raised by the Deputy, and has been advised that the issue of insurance requirement in respect of voluntary groups is under review at present and consultations with the insurers are ongoing. The board further advised that it provides public liability cover for all its premises and that voluntary groups who request use of these premises are facilitated. However, it is essential that appropriate insurance cover is in place. The board added that it will endeavour to facilitate voluntary groups by making the necessary arrangements with the board's insurers. I will be happy to visit the new health centre and try to resolve this issue.
