Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Beverley Flynn

Ceist:

451 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a person (details supplied) was refused a student visa to take up a place at a Tipperary third level institute. [26218/03]

The person in question made an application for a study visa in September 2003. The application was refused, because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied to my Department, that the applicant would observe the conditions of the visa. In particular, it was felt that the applicant had not displayed sufficient evidence of his obligations to return home following his proposed college course. On the visa application form, the applicant's uncle was named as his reference in the State. However, no details of his uncle's status in the State was submitted with the visa application. In addition, despite the fact that he describes himself as a full time student there is no supporting documentation in relation to educational achievement for the past two years. It is open to the applicant to appeal against the refusal by writing to the visa appeals officer in my Department, together with additional supporting documentation.
