Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

473 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the Tallaght Garda station will be upgraded in order that full divisional status can be accredited to this station, in view of the commitment of the Government in 1996 to bring this about; his plans to expand the existing station in Tallaght; the moneys to be pro vided for such capital works; the discussions between his Department and the Office of Public Works that have taken place to date on this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26433/03]

I am informed by the Office of Public Works, who have responsibility for the State's property portfolio, that it is currently discussing the development potential of the entire site on which the current Garda station in Tallaght is located with the local authority, and that it expects to bring forward proposals in the matter shortly.

My Department has made clear to the Office of Public Works in preliminary discussions on the matter that any development of the site must include the provision of a new building to meet the needs of a divisional headquarters station. Funding for the capital works associated with the provision of a new Garda divisional headquarters for Tallaght on this site will be provided by the Office of Public Works.
