Vol. 574 No. 3

Written Answers. - Regional Fisheries Boards.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

188 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if the person who is currently the chief executive officer of the WRFB has actually ceased to hold office; if the person will be replaced; if the person should have retired at 65, the reason the person is still chief executive officer; and the basis on which he approved salary and expense payments to this person in view of previous parliamentary question replies. [26970/03]

As I have already advised the Deputy in my response to his previous parliamentary questions on this matter, persons appointed permanently as chief executive officers of the regional fisheries boards cease to hold office on reaching age 65. An extension of service in respect of the person in question was approved by both the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Marine and Natural Resources for the period to October 2001. Neither my Department nor the Department of Finance approved any further contract in respect of this position. The question of filling the vacancy is currently being considered in the context of the Government decision of 4 December 2002 regarding recruitment to the public sector and the ongoing review of inland fisheries being conducted under the auspices of my Department.
