207 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the cost to date in each year of the pilot cervical cancer screening programme in the Mid-Western Health Board. [26958/03]

In 1998 my Department allocated €380,921 or £300,000 to the board for the development of phase one of the cervical screening programme. Additional revenue funding provided to it for this purpose in each of the following years is as follows:

The budget for phase one within the 2003 base allocation to the board is in the region of €3.89 million. This covers pay and non-pay costs associated with the management and administration of the programme. It does not include the cost of cervical cytology, coloscopy and histology services associated with phase one.

208 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of persons employed at the cervical screening programme at St. Joseph's Hospital, Limerick. [26959/03]

The current staffing complement of the programme is 27.3 whole-time equivalents. Those employed are involved in the overall management and general administration of the programme in the MWHB area. Their work includes the development and maintenance of the population register, payments to general practitioners, quality assurance, health promotion, training and IT development.
