Vol. 574 No. 3

Written Answers. - Radon Gas Levels.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

244 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 176 of 23 October 2003, if he envisages the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland launching a media campaign in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26998/03]

The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland media campaign on radon in the workplace referred to in reply to Question No. 176 of 23 October 2003 is directed at those counties which have the highest number of high radon areas based on Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland surveys.

The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland do not consider high radon areas to be particularly prevalent in County Donegal. Of 25 workplaces surveyed by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland in recent years in County Donegal, one workplace had one or more rooms with radon concentrations greater than 400 Bq/m3. County Donegal would not therefore rank among the higher risk areas now targeted in the media campaign on radon in the workplace.
