Vol. 575 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social and Affordable Housing Programmes.

Ciarán Cuffe

Ceist:

94 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the measures he has taken and intends to take to ensure that under used land owned by the State and semi-State agencies is made available for housing and other purposes. [28475/03]

Specific steps are being taken to identify lands that would be suitable for use as part of the new affordable housing initiative under the Sustaining Progress partnership agreement. In July 2003, the Taoiseach announced the immediate release of two State sites in Dublin and agreement to a proposal relating to two further State sites in Counties Meath and Kildare. This was a critical step in ensuring early delivery of affordable housing under this initiative. With regard to the release of further State land for this initiative, a series of meetings have been held with other Departments and a review of local authority land is under way to allow a further report to Government on this matter in the near future. The use of under utilised State land for purposes other than housing is a matter for the Minister for Finance and the relevant Minister.
