Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Criminal Prosecutions.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

299 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will confirm receipt of a letter from a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; if he will agree to meet with the persons concerned; if a senior official of his Department will do so; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29125/03]

I can confirm that I have received correspondence from the person mentioned by the Deputy and that a reply has now issued to the person concerned.

I have made it clear that, as the Deputy will appreciate, I have no role in relation to the issues raised in the correspondence which related to the handling and outcome of a criminal trial. While I fully sympathise with the persons concerned, it would be unfair and misleading to suggest in the circumstances that a meeting of the kind referred to by the Deputy could serve any useful purpose and, accordingly, I have no proposals for such a meeting.
