Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

326 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the position regarding the upgrading of Gortahork sewerage scheme, County Donegal, in view of the serious effluent problem in Ballyness Bay, Falcarragh, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29180/03]

The Gortahork sewerage scheme was at number 37 in the schemes listed in Donegal County Council's last assessment of water services infrastructural requirements in the county. Because of priority afforded to the scheme in that assessment it has not been possible to include it in my Department's water services investment programme for 2003-05, published last August.

Donegal County Council, in common with other local authorities, is currently in the process of preparing an updated assessment of water services needs at my Department's request. The revised assessments, and the prioritisation of individual schemes included in them, will be taken into account in the framing of future phases of the water services investment programme.
