Vol. 576 No. 1

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I will call the Deputies in the order in which they submitted notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for this House to take seriously the urgent need to facilitate Northern Ireland representation in this Parliament. We welcome the contribution of Members of this House to the recent Assembly election and congratulate them on their abject failure yet again. Those Members who campaigned in the North, only five of whom were successful, should now demonstrate their sincerity by supporting immediate full Northern representation in this House.

I seek the adjournment of the House to discuss the following urgent matter: the fact that Bord na Móna has accepted liability for any environmental damage caused by waste from the route of the proposed Corrib gas pipeline which Bord na Móna has agreed to allow Enterprise Energy Ireland to dump at Shrahmore Bog and the fact that, as with the sale of Bellanaboy Wood to that company, the public has not been told on what terms these State assets have been handed over for the use of a private consortium.

Having considered the matters fully, I do not consider them to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motions.
