Ceist:

200 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons who have availed of section 19 of the Finance Act 1994; the estimated value of moneys foregone to the State due to the introduction of this section; if he has received proposals to amend this section retrospectively; if consideration will be given to this matter in the Finance Act 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Finance (Mr. McCreevy):

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that one taxpayer has applied for and benefited under section 236 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997 formerly section 19 of the Finance Act 1994 since its introduction. Revenue are precluded on the grounds of taxpayer confidentiality from disclosing details on the cost of the relief. I have not received any proposals to amend this section.
